Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Who is Junction Valley Pony Baseball ?

A: Junction Valley Pony is a youth baseball league sanctioned by PONY National. We provide a competitive and well balanced youth baseball program. Our primary emphasis is sportsmanship, teamwork, and healthy competition all while maintained in a controlled environment. Junction Valley Pony Baseball is a non-profit organization.

Q: What is “Pony” Baseball and how is it different than Little League Baseball?

A: Pony baseball is competitive youth baseball with an emphasis on teaching the game of baseball for all youth who wish to play. Pony baseball differs from Little League baseball in a few aspects of the game and in different levels of play. First, players play in their respective age division based on their age no matter their ability. Little League can have multiple ages in one division. In Pony, kid pitch begins at the age of seven and full baseball rules begin at the age of 9. In Pony, pitching distance and base distance grow as the player's age grows. In Little League, the mound is set at one distance and the base distance remains a constant.

Q: What are the age levels/divisions for players that you are offering?

A: The following levels of divisional play are available to start in the 2026 Spring Season:

Pinto (Ages 7-8) - (38 ft mound, 60 ft bases)

Mustang (Ages 9-10) - (44 ft mound, 60 ft bases)

Bronco (Ages 11-12) - (48 ft mound, 70 ft bases)

Q: Can my child play up a division?

A: Yes. Generally a child can play up 1 age group. However, due to safety concerns JVPB maintains the right to revoke a request to do so.

Q: What are the boundaries restrictions?

A: There are not any boundary restrictions. If a child wants to play, we welcome them with open arms.

Q: When is registration?

A: Online registrations for Spring are open now. Online registration is highly encouraged. Registration for Spring Season will close on Jan 10th.

Q: What if I don’t register by January 10th?

A: Players will be placed on a wait list and will only be contacted if an opening is available. Late registrations will also receive a $25 late fee. No exceptions.

Q: When does the season start?

A: Spring Season: Practices start in February, games begin in March.

Q: When does the season end?

A: The Spring season ends in the beginning of June. All Star season starts mid-June.

Q: Where will practices be held?

A: Practices will be held in American Canyon - Field locations will be provided.

Q: Where are the games played?

A: All home games are played within American Canyon, but away games could travel to locations like Rocklin, Roseville, Vacaville, Rodeo, etc.

Q: What is included in the registration fee?

A: Each player's registration fee includes player's uniform (jersey and hat), paid umpires (Pinto Division and up), and administrative costs to run the season (insurance, field permits, etc).

Q: Can I make payments?

A: Yes, however that will have to be worked out with a member of JVPB & all payments are due in full by 1/30.

Q: How much of the game will my child play?

A: During the regular season, all teams are required to bat the lineup. Field playing time varies for each division & the managers and coaches determine the child’s playing time. If you would like more information about any other division or for a better explanation, please email Info@junctionvalleypony.org

Q: Why are there tryouts and when will they be held?

A: All registered players will be assigned to a team regardless of ability. Evaluations for the Spring season will be held in January at Shenandoah Park In American Canyon. Times TBD.

Q: What should we bring to tryouts?

A: Come prepared to play baseball. You will need a baseball glove. Baseball bats, baseball pants and helmets will be available if necessary, but JVPB recommends that each player have their own batting helmet.

Q: Who manages/coaches the teams?

A: Managers and Coaches are volunteers. They are mostly parents. At times, an individual might be interested in coaching a team even if they don’t have a child that plays in the league. All Managers, Coaches and Volunteers that have regular contact with players are required to complete a volunteer application and pass a background check.

Q: My son/daughter has never played before? Will they be ok?

A: Absolutely! At JVPB we pride ourselves in affording each child the ability, no matter what their experience level or lack thereof, to learn the game of baseball by our league appointed Managers and approved volunteers. No matter the level, we start with the basics and teach the mechanics of baseball. The best way to learn the game is to play!
